Myopia and myopia management

The initial consultation is performed by telemedicine on a Saturday morning. Follow-up care is required at 1017 Airline Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas.

This program is for residents of Texas only.

The first step is a 20-minute telemedicine visit with Dr. Akor to determine if your child is a good candidate for myopia treatment and discuss treatment options.

Review your child’s medical and eye history
Discuss family history of myopia
Evaluate risk factors such as screen time, near work, and outdoor activity
Review prior treatments (if any)
Begin outlining personalized treatment options (e.g., atropine, optical strategies)
This visit allows us to determine whether your child is a good candidate for myopia management and what next steps are appropriate.

What is the cost of the consultation?

Myopia Management Program – Sample Fee Schedule

We take a structured, medical approach to managing your child’s myopia. The program includes physician-guided care and in-office monitoring.

Consultation & Visit Fees

Initial Video Consultation (20 minutes): $250
Includes medical history review, risk assessment, and treatment planning
In-Office Visit #1: $250
Comprehensive evaluation and baseline measurements
In-Office Visit #2: $250
Follow-up assessment and treatment adjustment as needed

Additional Treatment Costs (Not Included in Visit Fees)

Depending on your child’s personalized treatment plan, additional costs may include:

Atropine eye drops (pharmacy-dispensed; ongoing monthly cost)
Myopia control glasses (specialty lenses)
Contact lenses for myopia control (if indicated)

What if we are a new patient to Dr. Akor, and we would like to have a consultation ?

If your child has not been previously seen by Dr. Akor, you must have:

The last two eyeglass prescriptions (refractions) available at the time of the visit

These are critical because they allow us to:

Assess how quickly the myopia is progressing
Identify patterns of eye growth over time
Make evidence-based treatment recommendations

Without this information, we cannot accurately evaluate progression.

What is your financial policy and paperwork requirement?

Consultation Fee Policy

The consultation fee is non-refundable once the appointment is scheduled.
This applies to both video consultations and in-office visits.
No- Show & Cancellation Policy
No-shows will not be refunded.
Missed appointments are considered a completed service due to reserved physician time.
Paperwork must be completed prior to the telemedicine appointment.
The myopia management program is not covered by insurance and is self-pay only.
Requirement (Texas Only)
The patient must be physically located in the state of Texas at the time of the video consultation.
This is required to comply with Texas medical licensing regulations.
If the patient is not in Texas at the time of the visit, the consultation cannot be completed and will not be refunded.
