The goal is not just clearer vision today—but protecting your child’s vision for life.

Why Myopia Is More Than Blurry Vision

A long or myopic eye is at increased risk for retinal detachments and glaucoma.

Should you consider myopia treatment for your child?

  • If your child is nearsighted before age 10
  • If you are a moderate or severe myopic parent
  • -1.00 diopter increase in glasses in 1 year
  • Parental concern about worsening vision

Myopia and myopia management

The initial consultation is performed by telemedicine on a Saturday morning. Follow-up care is required at 1017 Airline Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas.

This program is for residents of Texas only.

The first step is a 20-minute telemedicine visit  with Dr. Akor to determine if your child is a good candidate for myopia treatment and discuss treatment options.

  • Review your child’s medical and eye history
  • Discuss family history of myopia
  • Evaluate risk factors such as screen time, near work, and outdoor activity
  • Review prior treatments (if any)
  • Begin outlining personalized treatment options (e.g., atropine, optical strategies)
  • This visit allows us to determine whether your child is a good candidate for myopia management and what next steps are appropriate.

 Myopia Management Treatments

MiSight contact lenses

Low-dose atropine eye drops

Myopia-control glasses (Stellest®)

Combination therapy when appropriate

What is the cost of the consultation?

What if we are a new patient to Dr. Akor, and we would like to have a consultation ?

If your child has not been previously seen by Dr. Akor, you must have:

  • The last two eyeglass prescriptions (refractions) available at the time of the visit

These are critical because they allow us to:

  • Assess how quickly the myopia is progressing
  • Identify patterns of eye growth over time
  • Make evidence-based treatment recommendations

Without this information, we cannot accurately evaluate progression.
